I have recently started watching Star Trek: The Original Series. I have never been a Star Trek fan. Having watched The Next Generation and Voyager, I had come to the conclusion that the only enjoyable part of Star Trek was ... well, Picard and Data. I am unwilling to suffer episodic narrative without either a good plot arch (and Star Trek, unlike Babylon 5, has shown itself as rather lacking on that score) or an emotional connection to the characters.
